From the Nava pass, a minor road climbs north west. The road becomes a track as it enters the woods and turns left sharply. At a cement building, a bridleway heads right to the Pozzanghi Fort, which is situated on an outcrop, commanding magnificent views. Circle the fort to the south and follow the trail through pinewoods along the Val Tanaro side. The trail then climbs along a woody ridge to the Boschetti pass (1226m). A road links Nava to Mónesi. Cross the road and take the track towards the left in the direction of Madonna dei Cancelli for a few dozen yards. At the fork, head left along the trail that leads to the top, along the ridge. A few hundred metres later the trail turns left and cuts through larch woods about half way up the slope. A brief descent leads to a fountain at 1267m of altitude, near the local road. Turn right, off the road onto a track that leads past the Tetti La Teglia peaks. At a sharp bend in the road, at 1294m, leave the track and follow the trail through the woods and right along the ridge to the Colla del Fieno pass (1240m) where the trail meets the road again. Follow the road west for about 650 metres and then turn left onto a trail that leads through woods, along the ridge, to the Ciappa del Cuco knoll (1303m). A gentle descent leads back to the road and the Rinella pass. Follow the road for a few dozen yards and then take the track on the right, which climbs through woods facing the sea. The track runs along a ridge at 1342m of altitude and then descends into the Val Tanaro valley and, turning left, leads back to the road and a pass, at 1315m. Follow the road up for about a hundred metres. Take the track on the left that leads down through woods to a house, now in ruins. A brief climb, about half way up the slope, leads through trees to the Poggio Forcarau knoll (1269m). A little further on, the trail joins the road that leads to the crossroads at the San Bernardo di Mendática pass.
From the San Bernardo di Mendática pass, follow the road north east to the Nava pass. After about 800 metres, a trail leads off to the right, past the Poggio Forcarau knoll, and then turns right, into the woods. The trail cuts diagonally upwards, joining the road that leads to a pass at 1315m. The trail then winds up and down, crossing the road several times, to the Boschetti pass. The trail crosses the road one last time before heading down along a wooded ridge, all the way to the Pozzanghi Fort. It is situated on an outcrop, with fine views. A rapid descent brings the walker to the Nava pass.

The climb from the Nava pass to the Colla dei Boschetti pass takes the walker past the Pozzanghi (or Possanghi) Fort. Situated on an outcrop, it commands superb panoramic views over the broad Nava valley. It is a small fort with a round layout and is surrounded by a deep moat. Pozzanghi Fort and its twin Richelmo Fort on the opposite side of the valley were designed to prevent enemies from getting round the Nava pass forts below. Between the Colla dei Boschetti and San Bernardo di Mendática passes, the trail follows the ridge between Arroscia and Tanarello and passes through thick woods along the southern perimeter of the "Cima Pian Cavallo - Bric Cornia" nature reserve. The nature reserve covers the lower and mid- Tanarello valley, which was once inhabited but has now been returned to the wild. The remains of what were once villages can still be seen peeping out from the thick vegetation if you look hard enough.
