Blons
In BLONS (903m above sea level, 340 inhabitants) - earlier often called Berg Plons, Pläns or Plans ("Ebene" or plain) - numerous Rhaeto-Roman farmland names remind us of the early approaches to cultivation used by Walgau farmers in the Middle Ages. The Valser dispersed settlement area belonged to the dominion of the St. Gerold provostry until 1806. Due to the construction of the parish church in 1684-87, Blons has however been an independent parish since 1689. Since the avalanche catastrophe of 1954, the appearance of the village has changed dramatically, also with the formation of a distinctive little village centre. The avalanche grave and avalanche bell at the parish church in Blons remind us of the catastrope.
