Hiking in Liechtenstein

Red and green trails, 3 stages.

In the heart of Europe lies the small principality of Liechtenstein, 12.4km wide and 24.6km long with 34,000 inhabitants and 11 communities.

With its 160km², Liechtenstein is outstanding mountain country with a well-constructed network of hiking trails.

Take a walk in Liechtenstein and you will find a unique, diverse, ever changing countryside with every step. Whether you visit the valley area or the lofty heights of up to 2600m above sea level, there is something for every hiker to discover on the 400km of highly maintained hiking paths. For instance, the flora of Liechtenstein, which boasts 1600 different plant species, presents a wealth of diversity in a very small place.

Via Alpina gives you a small insight into our fantastic mountain world. The trail takes you over the Three Sisters massif on the “Fürstensteig” trail to the stopover point on the Sücka. This is an unforgettable classic mountain climb along the protected rocky paths, high above the Rhine valley. After visiting the cheese dairy on the Sücka, you still have the glorious view over the walser settlement Steg to enjoy before continuing over high above the Samina valley to the Pfälzerhütte hut.

On the Sücka, there is also the possibility of going down into Steg hamlet. From here, the well-known Malbun summer and winter holiday resort can be reached by bus or also by foot.

You can experience the beauties of the countryside down in the valley on many circular paths. Indeed, the Principality of Liechtenstein invites you to relax, lie back and dream, in a street café for example, or at the swimming pool in Vaduz. In addition to this, you will be spoilt for choice of leisure activities, whether it is a visit to the art gallery, or one of the international cultural events.
