The town centre of Ormea was built in the Low Middle Ages, and is made up of a main road, Via Roma, from which an intricate labyrinth of alleys branches off; here we find the House of the Lords of Ormea, dating back to the XIV century, and the contiguous New Square. On the Square bearing the same name is the church of San Martino bishop of Tours, housing a fresco of the XIV century depicting the Saint and the Pantocrator Christ, one of the most ancient ones in the area this area. The itinerary also envisages a guided tour of the Ethnographic Museum and the Toy Museum. Transfer to a 3-star Hotel in. Typical dinner and overnight stay. 2nd day: breakfast at the hotel. The Chartreuse was founded in the XII century and houses the small church of Beato Guglielmo (the Blessed William, n.d.T.), exquisite example of Romanesque architecture. The Chartreuse was built in mid-1700s as a nobles’ residence and was bought by King Charles Albert of Savoy in the first half of the XIX century. This Royal Hunting Lodge was very much loved by Vittorio Emanuele II, and it was here that the very young princess Maria Clotilde took the historical decision to marry Girolamo Napoleon, cousin of the Emperor Napoleon III. Transfer to Garessio and lunch at Isaia’s Tavern, in the hamlet of Valsorda, in the small valley with the same name, in the square on top of the old road crossing the ancient town of Garessio; in the afternoon, together with a guide, we’ll visit the old Sanctuary of the Beatissima Vergine delle Grazie (the Much Blessed Virgin of Graces, n.d.T.), with its large museum of votive offerings and an excellent and ancient fresco of the Madonna dating back to 1400.
