Summer is coming... where to start?

Snow is melting and the feet are getting itchy... Which alpine trails are accessible in the early season?

Nanos - Via Alpina stage R4Snowfall has been relatively abundant this winter and spring, but the situation is changing by the day. Currently, the lowest Via Alpina stages such as those in the Slovenian karst (R1-R8) and the Ligurian Alps (R151-R155, R157-R161) are accessible without difficulty, as well as many day hikes. The French northern Alps are also relatively snow-free up to 2000m altitude, even higher on southern slopes.

Globally, we expect that the Via Alpina trails should be practicable from mid-June, but crampons and ice axe are recommended until early July. Note also that most mountain huts open from mid-June (check current information on the alpine clubs’ websites). Happy hiking!
